Hurricane Trauma: How To Prepare For It, Identify It, and Treat It

Living and working in areas that are prone to hurricanes poses unique challenges in mental health treatment. 

As mental health professionals it is important to understand the challenges we may experience in working with clients who have experienced/are experiencing trauma related to a hurricane. 

This training will prepare you as a clinician to be able to feel comfortable working with client’s experiencing trauma responses related to hurricanes, guide you in learning to identify this kind of trauma, and know how to treat in in the therapeutic relationship.

About the Presenter

Ashley Comegys is a licensed clinical social worker with a multi-state online therapy practice that helps women with anxiety navigate life transitions, such as motherhood, grief, trauma and loss. She holds an MSW from Tulane University, as well as a certificate in disaster mental health. Additionally she is a certified perinatal mental health provider, who specializes in working with women experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Throughout her career Ashley has worked extensively with client’s who have experienced trauma across their lifespan, including experiences such as community violence, traumatic grief, hurricane and weather related trauma, and medical trauma. Outside of the therapy room she is passionate about empowering other women and mom clinicians to build their own online therapy practices, so they can have the time freedom and flexibility for their career and family.

  • Yes! For the first time in two years, this training will be offered in person July 10, 2025 at 1PM at the Broadmoor Improvement Association in New Orleans, LA

  • Yes, the Hurricane Trauma CEU will be offered live via Zoom on June 13 and August 22, 2025 at 9am CST.

  • If your plans change and you are unable to attend the training you are registered for, you can request to move your registration to one of the other available dates. Or you can contact the presenter, Ashley Comegys, a week before the training to get a full refund. Due to the nature of the presentation refunds will not be given less than 7 days before the date of the presentation.

  • Anyone is welcome to register and attend this training. While 3 clinical hours have been approved by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners and the Louisiana Counseling Association, you may be able to get credit for attending this training. Many states will recognize approved CEUs from other states. It is best to check with your state's board to see if they will accept CEUs approved by another state.
